late autumn in the mountains

It's been a while since we were hiking and I really miss mountains, trees and fresh air, and I also miss the beating of my heart during ascending, pains in my legs and peace in my mind. In my opinion all these things together are a recipe for happiness.

Finally last Sunday we went to Jof di Sompdogna (Krniška glavica) in northwest Italy. I took no picture walking uphill, so my description of a trip starts from the peak of a mountain, where there is a cross. The view was amazing. It was easy to recognize mt. Jof di Montasio (Montaž), mt. Mangart and Monte Lussari (Višarje) in the distance.
The larch trees started to lose their golden glory. Is this the autumn goodbye kiss?
The yellow needles are falling off the trees, but the small larch cones are the winter decoration.
It took us two and a half hours to reach the mountain peak, the return to the parking lot in Valbruna (Ovčja vas) was quickier. We were walking through the forest, near a small lake and passed the mountain hut Rifugio Grego.
I only wish I could use my recipe for happiness more often.

  1. I absolutely can relate to your recipe for happiness! Looking at these beautiful photos and reading your story, brought me back to when I hiked in The Dolomites in June of 2019. I googled to see how far you were from where I stayed in Villabassa. The larch cones here will now be decorated in white after yesterday's snowfall. Thank You for sharing your adventure with us!

  3. Yes Marji, your opening paragraph is beautiful and so true. The mountain views [and clarity of the sky] are spectacular.
