vrt v avgustu / our garden in August 2021

Prvo jesensko cvetje bo kmalu zacvetelo, kar pomeni, da se početje približuje koncu.
First autumn flowers are going to bloom and that is a sign the summer is ending.
Okrasni tobak je res lahko gojiti. Pisani svetovi se odprejo popoldne in v večernih urah.
Flowering tobacco is easy to grow. Colourful flowers are opening in the afternoons and evening hours.
V zadnjih letih smo se navadili na dolga poletja do konca septembra ali celo sredine oktobra. Letošnji avgust je kar malo čuden. Dnevi so nenavadno mrzli in deževni. Na vrtu je še vedno veliko paradižnikov. Plodovi so letos beli na zgodnji polovici. Prebrala sem, da je to posledica mrzlega maja.
Over the last years we were getting used to long summers lasting to the end of September or even to the middle of October. This year's August is a bit odd. The days are unusually cold and rainy. Summer is ending, leaving unripe melons behind. There are still many tomatoes in the garden. Many fruits are pale on the top this year. I've read that's the consequence of cold May.
V nasprotju z papriko posajeno v lonec, so paprike na vrtu še vedno zelene.
Peppers planted in the garden are still green unlike the one planted in the pot.
Zimsko zelenjavo sem že posejala. Kitajsko zelje in zimski radič lepo rasteta.
Winter vegetables were sown already. Chinese cabbage and winter radicchio are growing well.
Češnji že nekaj časa odpadajo listi, jabolka pa postajajo rdeča.
The cherry tree is already losing its leaves and the apples are turning red.
Sušenje bazilike ni ravno lahka naloga. Listi namreč zelo hitro počrnijo. Verjetno je najbolje, da jo posadilo v lonec in pozimi uporabljamo kar sveže liste.
I tried to dry some basilica leaves, which is not an easy task. They turn black immediately. I guess the best way to preserve basilica over the winter is to plant it in a pot.
Posušeni listi citronke so zaželeni v zimskih čajih. V mrzlih dneh človeka najlepše pogreje prav domači čaj.
Dried leaves of lemon verbena are used in winter tea. Homemade tea warms us up on cold days.
Pajki pletejo svoje mreže povsod po vrtu, kar je očiten znak, da je jesen že tu.
The spider's webs are appearing all over the garden, obviously autumn is here.
