V teh krajih lahko občudujemo številna jezera, kanjone in ledeno jamo.
For me the most beautiful national park in Montenegro is Durmitor, which is a mountain range. It offers mountain related activities like hiking, climbing, rafting, cycling, skiing and many others. Here lies Bobotov Kuk 2523 m, the highest peak of Montenegro. Several mountain lakes, canyons and an ice cave are also located in this beautiful area.

Black lake is located near Žabljak, where we were camping. During our visit it was light rain and very cloudy. Despite the weather we enjoyed walking in the forest, observing wild flowers and ducks playing in the lake.

A road trip from Žabljak to the mountain pass Sedlo 1900m and forward to village Trsa offers great views of the mountain landscape.

In the morning we stopped in Šarban and visited Prutaš 2393 m. After about an hour we reached Škrko žrelo 2114 m, where we had a great view of Bobotov Kuk and Šarene pasove, a green and white striped mountain! The imagination of nature has no limits.
We continued our trip to the peak of Prutaš whilst watching flowered mountain meadows. The Škrčko lake could be seen, too.

The south hillside of Prutaš consists of straight rock layers compressed together.

Some snow on the peak offered a change for fun.

Tara canyon is the deepest canyon in Europe. We stopped in Djurdjevica Tara, about an hour drive from Žabljak and admired the bridge. The longest zipline on Balkan leads across the canyon. I wasn't courageous enough to try it, but my son and husband couldn't resist the temptation. Beside zipline also other adventure activities are offered. Rafting, for example.
We planned our next stop at Lake Biograd. According to the internet it should be another beautiful lake surrounded by forests. To our disappointment we were not allowed to enter the national park due to the bad weather in the last days. Strong wind teared up trees by the roots, which could threaten the lives of the visitors. I wasn't happy, but the nature forces should never be ignored, so we moved to Skadar lake.

  1. Thank you. That brings back lots of memories of my visit many years ago. Looking online it seems that Zabljak has developed since those days but the mountains and lakes are as beautiful as ever.

    1. In my opinion they should do something about trash, waste product, overfilled trash cans near the roads. That would definitely improve the image of the country.

    Srečno in varno še narpej!

  3. The layering in the mountains is quite remarkable. Your husband and son were quite brave to zip line there. Thank you for sharing this beautiful country.
