Italian Apennines, Monti Sibilini

In June, we spents a week in Italy, visiting the Apennines, a mountain range that stretches along the Apennine Peninsula for more than 1,200 km (750 miles). In the summer it can be extremely hot there, while June temperatures are suitable.
We drove along the highway on the East coast of Italy from Slovenia, past Ancona, and first stopped in the town of Sarnano. After visiting a small Italian village, we walked to the waterfalls of the Tenne river.
In the evening it was still quite warm, so we moved towards the hills and finally reached Pintura, a small mountain village. We didn't plan to stop there at first, but the place was truly beautiful, fresh green grass, entire slopes covered with mountain flowers and wonderful views. We immediately decided to stay there.
Proti večeru je bilo še vedno precej toplo. Zato sva jo mahnila proti hribom in zvečer pristala v Pinturi, majhni gorski vasici. Tega postanka sploh nisva načrtovala, ampak bilo je tako lepo, sveža zelena trava, cela pobočja poraščena z gorskimi rožicami in čudoviti razgledi, zato sva kar ostala.
Since my husband is careful choosing the mountain route due to a knee injury, we decided to hike to Forcello del Fargno and it turned out that it was just the right amount of muscle training. The trail slowly ascended. Since it was Sunday, there were a lot of Italian visitors. In June, the Apennines are green, fresh green…

The next day we drove to the small village of Foce, our starting point for the hike to Lago di Pilato. This hike was a bit more strenuous. First, we walked across the meadows, which were followed by a rather steep but not dangerous ascent through the forest, and the last part was a slight ascent on grassy slopes. About three hours in total. There was still a little snow near the lake. As we climbed higher, we
could admire both lakes. I read on the Internet that the lake hosts a small shrimp, or a crab known as "Chirocephalus marchesonii" and this is the only place in the world where it can be found.
Fresh green colour everywhere, the abundance of flowers and beautiful mountains are the reasons for the large number of photos on my camera memory card. I can't fit all of them into one post, so one or maybe two more will follow.
Junija so Apenini zeleni in posuti z rožicami.

  2. I love every one of those photos, especially the flowers. I went to the Italian Dolomites many years ago and always intended to go to other parts of Italy, but never did.

  3. Hello, Margi. I love all the scenes from your trip, especially the one with the horses, yellow flowers in the green under the blue skies. I’m envious of you that you can drive into Italy and other countries, each of which has its own charm.
