poseben dan / a special day

Vstali smo ob 4h zjutraj in se približno dve uri vozili do Pokljuke. Nato smo šli do Vodnikove koče na Velem polju.
We woke up at four o'clock in the morning and drove about two hours to Pokljuka. Then we walked to the mountain hut Vodnikova koča na Velem polju.
At first, we were walking through the forest, later across the mountain meadows with morning dew.
The nice footpath led over snow remains and mountain flowers to the mountain cabin. We were too early for lunch there, so we were thinking of continuing to the Planika cabin, which could be seen in the rocks ahead of us. Our day was carefully planned, and it was quite foggy, so we agreed to return to the starting point. We could visit the Planika cabin next time. It was cold and I was thinking about my warm hoodie which was left at home. On our return our children walked over the mountain Viševnik, my husband and I chose the easy way. After lunch which consisted of traditional food, we returned home. There was still enough time for a referendum on drinking water and a nice chat.
My children are adults (almost), and family trips are becoming rare events. Last Sunday it was my privilege to decide how to spend a day and I really like mountaineering.
I've been thinking a lot about this day and I'm grateful for each day over the last fifty years, also for not being the best once. I've learned a lot these days. Fifty years is an age limit and I'm thinking about my children leaving home, about changes happening to my body. It takes more effort to stay fit since I'm not so young anymore. Maybe it's also an opportunity to set new goals. I've been thinking about these over and over for a week and finally got an answer on my birthday in a letter written by my children. They said that they were grown up and I could hike, travel, and have a lot of adventures.
They are right. Plain and simple, it's clever to enjoy each day, no matter where you are. A little nice things occur anywhere and make our days and that’s all we need.

  3. Margi - truly spectacular views. And if I read the translation correctly, happy birthday! I also tend to overcomplicate things, so I join your kids in recommending the simple enjoyment of life near the mountains!
