stories from my garden, November2025

These past few days we’ve been waking up to cold mornings, with the flowers now caught in tiny icy beads. At the start of the month the dahlias were still in bloom. We’ve put their tubers away in the cellar, where they’ll rest for the winter.

Zadnje dneve se zbujamo v mrzla jutra, rože so sedaj ujete v ledene biserčke. Še na začetku meseca so cvetele dalije. Njihove gomolje smo pospravili v klet, kjer bodo čez zimo.

In November we picked the kiwis. We had a lot of persimmons this year. We slice and dry them, then store them for the winter.
Novembra smo pobirali kivi. Kakija je bilo veliko. Mi ga narežemo in posušimo ter shranimo za zimo.

We brought the lemon trees indoors, as they wouldn’t survive the cold outside.
Limone smo prestavili v hišo, saj zime ne bi preživeli zunaj.

Our olive tree is the only one that keeps its leaves through the winter.

Oljka je naše edino drevo, ki ima tudi pozimi liste.

There’s still plenty of vegetables in the garden, and those can stay outside all winter.
Na vrtu je še veliko zelenjave, ta lahko prezimi zunaj.
