autumn gold

It’s pouring outside, and the rain and wind are sweeping away the last yellow leaves. Yet only a week ago the trees were glowing bright yellow. Me and my husband headed into the hills back then, to the Berebica hunting lodge on mt. Staro Utro. We hiked for about three hours along the old military road built during the First World War. Not too steep trail winds through the forest all the way to the 24th switchback, where you enter a larch paradise. Golden hues and a sunny day are the perfect combination. It’s just a shame this beauty fades so quickly.
Zunaj močno dežuje, dež in veter odnašata zadnje rumene liste. Pred kakšnim tednom pa so drevesa žarela v rumeni barvi. Zlatorumena barva in sončen dan sta res najboljša kombinacija. Škoda le, ker ta lepota tako hitro mine.

  2. I love that, through your effort and camera lens, I now get to see and enjoy the magnifence of a mountain autumn. Just spectacular!

  3. Those colours are amazing! Even though they fade, once the snow falls and everything is covered in pure white, it will be just as beautiful!

  4. It seemed odd to me to hear of a trail built during the first World War. Here in southern middle Tennessee, USA there were are no WWI battle scars on our land. However, there are numerous American Civil War (1860 - 1864) scars and reminders everywhere - streets named after battles, cemeteries, battlefield trenches are still in the woods and I have known farmers to find bullets after plowing a field.

My mother mentioned knowing many old men who were veterans but it was not discussed since our side lost. The scars on the people ran just as deep as those on the land.

I guess all wars no matter where they are fought, are horrible. At least nature will eventually make the land beautiful again.
