June was relentless this year. The heat wave just wouldn’t end, and day after day, the sun blazed over the garden without mercy. We had only one proper rain shower the entire month, so daily watering became my main concern. Every evening, it took me a full hour just to give the essential plants what they needed to survive, carefully rationing water.

Junij je bil letos res neizprosno vroč. Toplotni val ne preneha, dan za dnem sonce neusmiljeno žge. Imeli smo samo le eno nevihto v celem mesecu, zato je vsakodnevno zalivanje postalo moja glavna skrb. Vsak večer porabim uro ali več, da zalijem le rastline, ki to nujno potrebujejo, da ne bi prehitro zmanjkalo vode za zalivanje.

We’ve already begun our summer harvest: winter onions, green peas, garlic, green beans, and early potatoes have all been gathered. Harvesting always brings a sense of satisfaction, it’s a reward for all the care you’ve given the plants.

Že smo začeli poletno pobiranje pridelkov: zimska čebula, zeleni grah, česen, zeleni fižol in zgodnji krompir so že pobrani. Obiranje vedno prinaša zadovoljstvo, je nagrada za vso skrb, ki smo jo dali rastlinam.

Despite the harsh conditions, some plants thrived. Our olive tree, for instance, bloomed more abundantly than ever, its silvery-green leaves catching the sun like little mirrors. It buzzed with life as bees came and went.

Kljub težkim razmeram nekatere rastline uspevajo. Na primer, naša oljka je cvetela bolj obilno kot kdaj prej, njeni srebrno-zeleni listi se lesketajo v soncu. Obiskovalo pa jo je ogromno čebel.

The tomato fruits are still green and bursting with blooms, and I can hardly wait for them to ripen.

Paradižniki so še vedno zeleni in polni cvetov, komaj čakam, da začnejo zoreti.

One of the things I love most about the garden is that you’re never really alone. There is always our cat and birds, butterflies, bees, and ladybugs. At the moment, we’re all a bit worn out from the high temperatures.

Ena izmed stvari, ki jih pri vrtu najbolj obožujem, je, da nikoli nisi res sam. Vedno so tam naša mačka, ptice, metulji, čebele in pikapolonice. Trenutno smo zaradi visokih temperatur vsi malo utrujeni.
