stories from my garden, May 2025
If I had to highlight just one thing in May, it would be cherries. May was truly a cherry month, and we’re really thankful for this beautiful gift from nature. Unfortunately, cherries don’t do well with too much rain, and the weather hasn’t been very kind to them lately.
The weather in May was unusually wet and cold. It's the end of the month, and it's still too chilly to wear T-shirts. The vegetables are doing well, and the tomatoes are slowly improving.
Wild or alpine strawberries are very easy to grow; in fact, they grow like weeds. By the beginning of May, they produce cute, sweet, and delicious little berries. I grow them alongside my veggie garden, and they also look quite decorative.
The seedlings have already been planted,Sadike sedaj že rastejo v vrtu.
Chives are blooming, our garden is turning lush and green. It's amazing how much of a difference just a few days can make.
Despite the weather, we enjoyed the flowers.
Margi, I am astounded by the size and productivity of your garden. The reward for all your time and effort is in the colour and perfume of the flowers and the freshness of the vegetables for your meals for many months. Congratulations and thank you for sharing. Those cherries look mouth wateringly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh my! Your garden looks great! Your potatoes and onions look so healthy. You are able to grow grass in your rows to help keep the mud under control. I wish we could do that but our weeds are Bermuda grass and it has horrible runners. If you miss digging up one little seedling, it will spread underground into everything.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing jars full of home grown food. They always look delicious and cheerful. It is wintertime rewards for all your hard work!

Margi - it is stunning to me that you already have harvested so many cherries - our growing season is just getting started! It has also been cool here until about two weeks ago. And then, all of a sudden, with the warm weather and the bright sunshine, you could see the difference in a plant's size from the morning to the evening!
ReplyDeleteI love that you have gooseberry bushes - we had many when I was growing up, and one of my favorite desserts is gooseberry pie - it was one of my Mother's specialities!
Is your cat interested in the tree for the cherries or the birds? (I think I know the answer.)
